Omaha Diamond Spirit Joins M.I.N.K. League

Beginning with the 2010 season college ballplayers from Nebraska won't have to go far to play in a very competitive summer collegiate baseball league. The Omaha Diamond Spirit baseball team, which was founded in 1994 by general manager and head coach Arden Rakoksky, has taken a big step up the baseball ladder by joining the venerable M.I.N.K. league. The M.I.N.K. League opportunity came about as a result of the retirement of Bob Steinkamp as the head coach of the Beatrice Bruins and the folding of the Bruins organization. Rakoksky jumped at the chance to fill the vacancy in the League. "This will take more money and more time," commented Rakosky, "but so far it has taken off real well." Among the significant developments for the newest M.I.N.K. League team is sponsorship by the Ultimate Baseball Academy and Xplosive Edge strength and conditioning consultants.

In its early years the Diamond Spirit played in the All-American League, and then in about 2001, began competing in the Strike Zone's Upper Deck League and was usually the only team in that league that stayed together from year to year. During that period the team played most of the teams in the M.I.N.K. as part of its summer schedule of approximately 40-45 games.
